How to Avoid Falling into the Traps of Telemarketing Scams

December 8, 2010

While there are many very legit B2C telemarketing companies out there that are genuinely interested in helping people there are also bad apples that give the rest of telemarketers a bad rap. Here are some tips to help you avoid telemarketing scams.

It is possible to always stay one step ahead of rogue telemarketers and one easy way to do that is by checking the number they have called you from with one of those reverse phone lookup websites. This will generally allow you to be able to see what company is calling you. If that doesn’t work you can simply type the phone number into an internet search engine and find out that way.

Another thing to do is search for known telemarketing scams online. The most common ones are those that offer magazine subscriptions and never deliver or people promising to provide you with some kind of debt consolidation.

The best way to prevent fraud is by never giving out any kind of personal information over the phone unless you are 100% sure that you are dealing with a reputable company. This can be very hard to determine over the phone so the internet can be your best friend.
